تحقیقات نشان می‏دهد مصرف این دارو در زمان بارداری می­تواند
باعث ایجاد هیدرونفروز و هیدرواورتر در جنین موش گردد .
علی‏رغم بروز ناهنجاری­های فوق،
درهنگام مقایسه با گروه شاهد، مصرف داروی گاباپنتین در زمان اندام­سازی فقط
از نظر افزایش ناهنجاری­های هیدرواورتر
و هیدرونفروز معنی­دار بود. در رابطه با
اثرات تراتوژنیک مصرف این دارو
در زمان بارداری اطلاعات زیادی در دست
نیست لذا ضروری به‏نظر می‏رسد تا
مطالعات بیشتری بر روی اثرات ناهنجاری این ماده صورت پذیرد.

علائم ترک ، که اغلب شبیه علائم ترک بنزودیازپین است ، در وابستگی
جسمی برخی از کاربران نقش دارد.
